I don't really think there are that many more homophobic bigots than racist bigots. Bigots usually cover a lot of bases. In other words, I can't see that many people voting for Obama but not a lesbian who held all the same positions.

Not to mention, and this is true, lesbians are a lot less controversial than gay men in the US. Hell, they're even celebrated by otherwise homophobic men.

Honestly, I really do wish she would be. She'd get my vote. I don't agree with everything she says - I'm not one of her biggest fans. But I like her and respect her and think she has a first rate mind and a lot of intelligent things to say.

I don't think she could pull it off though. Too much hate on the right. Then again - I wasn't sure Obama could ever be elected in a Country that still struggles a great deal with racism.
