Closing Ranks: The NRC, the Nuclear Industry, and TEPCo. Are Limiting the Flow of Information 4/6

http://fairewinds.com/multimedia

Arnie Gundersen discusses inconstancies between what the NRC, TEPCo, and the Nuclear Industry are saying privately and publicly. Documents from the french nuclear firm, Areva, and the NRC reveal what the industry knows about the Fukushima disaster.

It appears that what is happening at TEPCo is not being told to the public. Including the fact that mud is building up inside the containers as well as several other issues including plutonium likely ejected from the fuel pools in the explosions up to several miles from the plant. Areeva and New York Times are reporting these concerns and others that Arnie Gundersen addresses.

1. Every day there is another story about how things are a little worse than first reported
I don't think it's a coincidence that the US government told people to get 50+ miles from the plant while the current evacuation zone is 20+ miles. The US government knows how bad it is.

2. Rep. Markey is making attempts to learn what the NRC knows

Rep. Markey (D-Mass) releases redacted correspondence with the NRC on reactor core melt

To download redacted letter pdf google:

nrc_question_regarding_fukushima_unit_2.pdf

From the correspondence:

Based on radiation readings in the drywell and the torus (3340 rem/hour and 91 rem/hour, respectively), the NRC staff speculates that part of the Unit 2 core may be out of the reactor pressure vessel and may be in the lower space of the drywell. Lower radiation readings in the torus suggest that there is not core material in the torus.
