ACORN pleads guilty in Nevada voter fraud case
The defunct political advocacy group ACORN has pleaded guilty in a case alleging that canvassers were illegally paid to register Nevada voters during the 2008 presidential campaign.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported on Wednesday that ACORN defense attorney Lisa Rasmussen entered the guilty plea to one count of felony compensation for registration of voters.

Under a deal, 12 other felony counts were dropped against the organization.

ACORN faces a maximum $5,000 fine, and under the deal, prosecutors will not argue at the Aug. 10 sentencing hearing.

1. But nobody cast a single illegal vote, and nobody was disenfranchised, due to her actions. n/t

2. That individual workers made a grave, over zealous registration error
does not mean illegal votes were ever cast. The article is sorely brief, incomplete and misleading.

I unrec for posting a 1/2 assed story that gives Reps any misguided ammunition against this group...especially given the way they were disenfranchised.

4. Looks like they're cutting their losses.
Maybe there is actual guilt (that's a big maybe), or maybe a $5,000 fine is a lot cheaper than fighting it in the courts. There's nothing to protect any more, so the plea bargain seems like the wise thing to do.

7. I find it informative.
Many of us followed this story closely. I appreciate the update. There's no need to attack a fellow DUer because the facts presented may not be what we might have liked.

8. Here, AP, let me fix that headline for you:
"ACORN pleads guilty in Nevada voter registration fraud case"

There, that should do it. Pretty simple, huh?

13. It's not even a voter registration fraud. It is an employment infraction.
