Nadler: GOP budget would ‘take us back to the 19th century’

Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) had some choice words for the ten-year Republican budget proposal developed by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI).

“This is truly a budget to take us back to the 19th century in every way,” the New York Democrat said Wednesday during a press conference. “No more Medicare, no more Medicaid… Don’t count on government for much help in education.”

10. There was a reason that the late 19th century...

was known as 'The Gilded Age.' Most of us are well aware of what this indicated. For those that do not, google: the gilded age.

For those who want further insight, let me recommend Mark Twain's Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court. Much in that story is about today's manipulation and abuse of both wealth and power--includes a short bit on 'buying power'.

Twain's new book has some pertinent comments that fit this present time almost perfectly.
