What does that have to do with now? The government has fully been in operation since then. I guess they've obviously been funding it somehow? Didn't the Dems try to pass a budget last year but it was (surprise, surprise) filibustered by the Republicans?

4. actually I think Mary Landrieu had a share in preventing passage |
|
the other day someone posted a statement she had made about it..she was proud of it..
In order to overcome the DLC/blue dogs/repub-lite dems we seem to have too many of, we need an 80-20 split...failing that, we always end up bargaining away anything even remotely seen as liberal or progressive..

5. I have been hearing this on local talk radio too. |

Well, not 2009, but 2010.
Gotta say, we probably should have passed the budget on time, because this is a cluster with them in control.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but in this case, the Repub talking point is absolutely right. The budget mess we're having now wouldn't be taking place if a budget was passed last year for this fiscal year. We had the House, Senate and the WH. The Repubs could object like they did with health care reform and delayed its passing, but there were more than enough votes to pass it along party lines. Now, thanks to the elections last November, the Repubs NOW have power to deal with budget matters. If you're going to say that it's not our fault, how do you dispute this? In other words, the greatest enemy of a talking point is the truth. What's the truth that makes this talking point look foolish and goes away?
