Actor Hugh Grant secretly tapes Rupert Murdoch Editor-admits to widescale hacking + illegal activity
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 01:00 AM by Snoutport
Hugh Grant was hounded mercilessly by the Rupert Murdoch press for any tidbit of gossip they could publish. Hugh Grant's car broke down and low and behold, the guy who stopped to help was one of the journalists who had hounded him all those years. The reporter had retired so the two ended up having a couple of pints and the journalist blabbed all about how Murdoch's top British Harpy and Chief of Newscorp, Rebekah Brooks was often horseback riding with the new Prime Minister, that she 100% knew of the phone hacking, and then he admitted to a whole bunch of other things going on at Murdoch's newspapers. Bad things. Illegal things...

And best of all? Hugh Grant hated this reporter for making his life so miserable...so he taped the conversation. So this adds another level into the phone hacking. Two of Murdoch's top paper people were arrested this week AND Murdoch is pulling his son out of England...perhaps out of fear the arrests will go higher up the Murdoch chain of command!

Extra, extra, read all about it!

51. Grant got fed up with the media a long time ago
and walked away from the movie biz a couple of times because of the constant invasion of privacy. He really isn't your typical movie star. He's very intelligent and talented. I saw him on The Actors Studio a few years ago and I've never seen anyone put that suck-up James Lipton in his place quite like Hugh Grant did.

58. Some of Hugh Grant's best roles were in lesser-known flics
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 12:11 PM by LongTomH
One of my favorites was Sirens, playing opposite Sam Neill. Sam Neill played an Australian artist whose latest work was being considered 'blasphemous.' Hugh played a liberal young minister sent from England to 'minister to his soul,' and get him (Neill) to withdraw his work from exhibition. The film is delightful and sexy, in a very subtle way.

By the way, I loved "Lair of the White Worm!" It may have been the 'goofiest horror/porn flic ever;' but, it was also one of the most elegant 'horror/porn flics' ever, and one of the best acted!

74. At McMullan's pub, Grant taped mia culpa, and then "accidently" stiffed him for bar tab (photos)
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 02:30 PM by guruoo
First, a pertinent snippet from the story linked in the OP:

"..next thing we had arrived and he was asking me if I would pose for a photo with him,
"not for publication, just for the wall of the pub".
I agreed and the picture duly appeared in the Mail on Sunday that weekend with his
creative version of the encounter. He had asked me to drop into his pub some time.
So when, some months later, Jemima asked me to write a piece for this paper, it
occurred to me it might be interesting to take him up on his invitation.'

Hugh Grant racks up bar tab worth £5.45 at local pub in Dover... but leaves without paying

Handshake: Grant shakes hands with landlord Paul McMullan
before he accidentally left without paying

Hugh Grant might be one of Britain’s most successful actors, but he still managed to get out
of paying £5.45 for his latest bar tab.

The Four Weddings and a Funeral star was enjoying a drink of Spitfire ale while buying a round
at his favourite pub in Dover and chatting to the locals, but then left without paying.

He initially ordered a couple of rounds for himself and his golfing partner but after realising
the ale was stronger than he thought and he had to drive, he drained his pint glass, shook the
hands of his fans in the pub and left.

The star then gave landlady Georgia MacKenzie a hug and the 24-year-old asked him if he would
marry her. Grant joked: 'Well clearly there are some benefits to being an actor and I do get
paid an awfully large amount of money.' Miss MacKenzie said: 'He is much better looking in real
life than on screen and looks perfectly fit and healthy. It is good to see him looking so well.'

Rupert swinging from the end of a noose would make an excellent deterrent to Scaife and others like them.

85. Why Rupert et al have apologized
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2011/04/rupert_murdoch_phone_hack_news_of_the_world.php

Foul Play: This week, two more News of the World journalists were arrested, all but decimating the "rogue" reporter defense. The company "would not say Friday why it had made the decision to apologize now, although the search of the newsroom is likely to have shaken the tabloid," the New York Times reports, also noting that a judge recently ordered the newspaper to turn over hundreds of thousands of emails.

"I suspect they were forced into making this move as an effort to try and manage a situation that is going against them," said one of the prosecuting attorneys. "The publicity has probably been very damaging."

But moreover, it may have gotten in the way of business in a more cornet way. Murdoch is in the process of acquiring British Sky Broadcasting, a.k.a. BSkyB, adding the TV company to an already huge media arsenal. Reuters reports that British Home Secretary John Prescott wrote on Twitter, "The NOTW (News of the World) has now admitted mass criminality. The Gvt should NOT approve Murdoch's bid for BSkyB until all investigations are complete."

But the sooner News International settles -- they hope to give less than $33 million to the victims -- the sooner they can get back to their standard shadiness, making the big bucks in peace.

I always admired his taste in prostitutes. Nice to see he's also a clever guy recording people without their consent.

I woulda done the same thing, though.

95. On the tape...
Did Hugh Grant nervously mumble on about how he doesn't quite understand what's going on?

Seriously, though, smart move on Mr. Grant's part and what a way to get back at the prick. Two birds with one stone, I suppose.
