Some people are bitterly complaining on a soap opera board.

"Military is only getting paid half for this pay period, so on the 15th we only get half of our paycheck. After that, the pay is frozen until this is resolved. They will eventually pay us what we are owed but for now we get no pay whatsoever.....so I'm not sure how we are supposed to pay bills, buy food, get gas for the cars, pay rent etc. We are SCREWED! It's all fine and dandy that we will eventually get the money but that doesn't help for the moment. :growl:"

1. Not to worry, Congress will continue to get paid
That is what is important, they need to supplement their incomes from the lobbyist.

2. Heard it
The House Dems tried to put forward a bill, without riders, that would have at least kept the military paid until September, the TeaPublicans voted it down...at least 3 times!

4. It doesn't help that they do not get paid that much even when
they get a full paycheck. I grew up military and married military so I know that you don't have extra money lying around. People, this is why military people get benefits and a retirement plan, because we don't have that much to live on. Of course, I am talking enlisted and the idiots in congress probably are looking at the pay Generals get.

6. I've been asked to compile some data on the impact to our Sailors
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 01:29 PM by maxrandb
and here is some of what they are saying;

- My mortgage and car payments come directly out of my check via direct deposit, I won't be able to make those payments and still feed my kids.

- I just managed to pay down my credit card debt, but with rent and car payments, I'll have to pay those with advances from my credit card.

- This will be devastating to me. I don't have savings to cover my mortgage.

- What is going to happen to my credit report when I miss a payment on my car or house?

and the most crushing one so far..."I'm 'mil-married to-mil"...my family's screwed!"

People don't realize that most federal employees and most Americans are living pycheck-to-paycheck.

Of course, the Republican response to this would be; "He has a car and a house? He needs to stop sucking at the teat of the Federal Government...God Bless 'Murika"

10. That money is not really for the military.
It's to line the pockets of defense contractor CEOs.

9. If there is a shutdown, President Obama should declare a national emergency
On the basis that lack of troop pay is a serious threat to our security. Issue an emergency order to the treasury to send whatever money is needed for troop pay to the defense department, and issue an order as CiC that troop pay will continue as normal.

If the GOP objects, tell the public that it's gravely necessary and just let them whine. They won't be able to do anything given the public sentiment.
