370,000 executive branch workers to be furloughed during shutdown
Source: Raw Story
By Sahil Kapur

WASHINGTON – At least 370,000 employees of the Obama administration would be furloughed in the short-term during a government shutdown, according to data compiled by Government Executive.

A shutdown would occur if Congress fails to pass a measure budget deal or resolution to continue funding the government after money expires Friday at midnight. Such a scenario looked all but inevitable Friday afternoon.

Some agencies would lose the vast majority of their workers. The Environmental Protection Agency would lose 16,061 of 17,721 employees. the Small Business Administration would lose 2,102 out of 3,230, and the Government Accountability Office would retain fewer than 30 of their 3,000 workers.

Other agencies hit hard with furloughs would be the Departments of Labor (14,449 out of 16,099 workers), Interior (at least 52,000 of 68,900) and Treasury (92,000 of 127,000).

1. I'm an "excepted" DOL employee
I will be working without pay, if there is a shutdown.

4. I'm DOL as well.
I'm non-essential. What's your agency?

7. OWCP
No idea how we are "excepted"...the kicker is that about half of us are funded outside the annual appropriation, so those people get regular pay and leave.

2. My beloved spouse, Mrs. Venation, among them.
89% of Mrs. V.'s agency faces furloughs.

Here's a good reference: http://www.federalnewsradio.com/?nid=35&sid=2337691

5. Obama should say he will not sign any bill that doesn't pay all of the gov't workers wages due.

Those federal employees who are required to work during the partial shutdown should get paid for all of their work.

Period.

And if President Obama won't do that, all federal workers should stay home.

How many of us would work for any employer if they refused to guarantee us a paycheck for work performed?

9. And that is the position of the Obama administration?

A real "friend" of labor.

Well, if 600,000 federal employees were organized to not return to work unless Obama pledged he would not sign any bill that denied them pay for their work, it would be hard to fire all of them.

Unless Obama decided to pull a Ronald Reagan as happened to aircraft controllers.

6. My husband is a "mission critical" federal contractor employee
He found out today that his group is essential to keep military veteran benefits rolling.
