Now for something completely different - medical costs..
As most of you know, two weeks ago, I broke my foot. Two days later, I was put on an Aircast. It looks like this:

Now. it only comes with two socks, and I have to wash one sock every day, wearing clean ones.

I went back to the doctor for a follow up (the fracture is healing nicely, thank you) and asked if he could give me a smaller cast.

He said he could, but didn't think my Medicare would cover it (he's pretty sure Medicare covered the first one)

I wanted this:

He said he could do that, but I'd pay for it out of pocket - cost? $304.00

I said to him: Nevermind, I'll keep the big one for three more weeks, and did ask for more socks. Gave me one extra sock (all they had)

These socks are good up to my knee, but can't find it at Target or something (I did ask around - even the medical supplies in town didn't have them on stock)

I'm disappointed, but understanding of my limitations with Medicare.

1. they're supposed to come with socks?
Seriously-- I just finished six weeks in one of those for a broken ankle. All I got was the fracture boot, no socks. I wonder whether that might be an issue, actually-- the lower pad in mine was always sliding sideways so that it ended up only about half under my foot, and half sticking up beside my foot (on the lateral side rather then the medial). That's significant because I developed a NASTY corn on the ball of my foot right there where the edge of that bottom pad contacted my foot. I've been out of the boot for nearly a month now, but have not been successful getting rid of the corn, which is driving me NUTS.

Still haven't gotten the bill from my orthopedist, either.

2. Sorry about your troubles.
There's something called stockinettes that might work.
