Anyone else not give a rip if the government shuts down?
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 08:22 PM by CoffeeCat
I've been reading a lot of news lately, and deliberately ignoring and avoiding the
government-shut-down articles and segments.

Yeah, I know. It's front-page headlines everywhere. I'm supposed to care.

I could really care less what these jokers do. It feels like staged theatrics from
a bunch of bozos attempting to distract us--with bad dinner theater.

I really could care less about their antics anymore. I wish they would all grow up.

You know what this entire episode reminds me of? The days when my children were toddlers
and they'd start acting like squirrels on steroids went I wouldn't buy Snicker Bars
or Cherry Ring Pops for them in the check-out lane. They'd wait until I noticed their
frustration, and then they'd turn up the antics until they figured that sheer buffonery would
yield them a package of Bubble Gum Tape.

Oh the drama!

When I would ignore the drama and refuse to reinforce naughty behavior, they'd settle down and we'd leave
the store in peace. It's no fun being bad without an audience you know!

I'm not going to give these elected officials undeserved attention. I don't want to read any more
articles or see any "BREAKING NEWS" reports about how shut down is imminent. I'm just not playing.

I've got better things to do and I'm rolling this cart out of the store. I'm hoping these clowns
are as smart as my toddlers were--and that they'll just stop and realize that no one is impressed
with the nonsense theater.

1. I think it would be good
to show what Republicans are really about. Let's see how the baggers feel when they get a live education as to how many government services they really use. Sometimes pain can be a wonderful motivator.

2. Now that you mention it...
...WTF has Uncle Sam done for me lately, apart from the oil?

What bothers me is that after the shut-down or no-shut-down, I have the feeling the Koch Brothers will get their way.

7. There are so many BIG issues right now...
The Fukushima meltdown, the Wisconsin election situation, the economy, etc.

Not to mention all of the important things--as you mentioned the Koch Brothers--that never
make the headlines because it's all hidden corruption.

We have been things to do than watch this silliness.

8. That's a lot of the lesser earners being deprived of a paycheck.
For the length of the shutdown at least. Only the "exempt" are sure to get their pay afterwards. Those who are "non-exempt" will require an act of Congress to get a dime.

Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 08:24 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
who won't get paychecks. Not to mention the thousands more who do business with them and who also won't get paid. This is a big deal and we should all care, at least about the people who will be directly harmed. It's the Republicans who don't care, and I don't want to be part of that attitude.

11. I do care for the government workers...
...and also the military members who won't be paid.

I guess my attitude about this is one of--oh look, once again the clowns are acting like clowns again.

I am just exhausted from their bad behavior. It never ends.

4. It's not quite like your toddlers, but I do agree people (honestly, the Republicans)
do need to grow up.

I care, the repercussions of this would hurt a lot of people and a lot of businesses. It's more than the National Parks closing for a few days.

14. Yes, it's a very big deal for a lot of people. It's not silliness when it directly effects
your family. The shutdown basically amounts to a pay cut for federal workers.

for those benefits will still be processed. The only concern is that staffing may be pared back, which could cause delays.

15. and I am sorry about that...
I am sure this is stressful for you, watching this all play out.

I do have sympathy for the government and military workers who are the victims of this nonsense.

I do care about these people.

I'm just having a hard time mustering any sort of patience for more antics from are elected officials. I just
can't stomach the incompetence, the lies, the theater and the way they do what they want--regardless of what
"We The People" want.

I hope for a quick resolution to this--for your husband and for all of the other government workers.

16. Shut it down. Democrats should not yield another penny and certainly
not yield on the riders in the budget bill. I don't give a damn about who gets blamed, democrats should not step one more inch backward. Let the teabagging elderly feel the sting of not getting their SS payments or prescriptions paid for. Democrats must refuse to accept another continuing resolution, because they will be right back at this point next week, or when the bill run it's course.

38. Back pay is awesome...
..but it doesn't keep you from getting your car repossessed or evicted out of your apartment when you can no longer afford rent/bills. Also, you get more tax taken out of a "back pay" check than a standard one, because the larger check puts you in a higher tax bracket. Yes, you get that back on your next tax return, but it doesn't help you when you need the money ASAP.

I hate the fact that this compromise didn't include ANY defense budget cuts, but I'm also damned glad that my wife and I will continue to have money coming in. I wasn't looking forward to going to work today, not knowing when my next paycheck would be coming.

You should have applied for those passports as soon as you knew what your trip's time table was.

What if there was a paperwork glitch?

36. Didn't know this trip would be on. It's last minute according to husband's
Employer. We hope we can get the passports squared away by the end of May for an early June trip.

Hubby hasn't travelled in awhile, and we haven't gone Anywhere with him out of the States because my kids were so young that I didn't want to travel with them. I think we can do it more comfortably now (for them and other travelers).

decade and a half. The voters that will be hurt most from a shutdown vote republican. Fuck them, I am ready for this fight and for a shutdown if republicans push a shutdown.

28. Obviously, you're not going to be affected by a shutdown
But millions WILL. Paychecks, government services, essential services, military pay.

Garbage collection in DC. Environmental inspections. Govt business offices closed.

A shutdown has economic implications FAR beyond mere "government theater"

29. Shut it down. Republicans have pushed, democrats must respond.
A continuing deal will mean democrats will be at this point when the deal expires. Screw republicans. Voters that vote republican will suffer more from the shutdown. Poor people have had government benefits ripped from them for a decade and a half, there is nothing much left for poor people to loose.

Don't know what Obama gave up. When I find out, I'll probably retch.

He dismissed his base as "some Democrats are mad at me." You got that right, Mr. President/Capitulator.
