Why it's difficult to believe that anti-choicers
really mean what they say
Right-wing opposition to abortion is NOT about "saving babies". I know it. You know it. THEY know it. It is, and has ALWAYS been, about controlling the sex lives of women by ensuring that nasty consequences will be a regular result for any woman who DARES to defy their self-proclaimed "authority".
They see us as property. They see us as less than human. They should not be compromised with or soothed...they should be FOUGHT and fought HARD.
Our bodies are not community property. They are not merely receptacles for the next generation. They belong to US, solely, unconditionally, and without interference from bullshit right-wing legislators who see us as brood mares and walking sex toys. We have our own minds and we are fully capable of making our own decisions. We base those decisions on our superior knowledge of what's best for us in regard to our own individual life circumstances. Nobody should be able to take that most basic, fundamental human right of self-determination just because SOME people cannot bring themselves to recognize us as intelligent, equal human beings.
Our liberties, our rights, our very lives are in serious danger. Never doubt it.
"For today, the women of this Nation still retain the liberty to control their destinies.
But the signs are evident and very ominous, and a chill wind blows."
Justice Harry Blackmun, U.S. Supreme Court, in Webster v. Reproductive Health Services (1989)
