Understandable, I would hate to admit it, but I would have been with the tea baggers on this one.

2. When people I trust, like Frank, McDermott, Lee, Rangel vote NAY, that concerns
me. Any insight as to why some 'good' Dems would vote this way?

Thanks for the link! :hi:

5. Yeah, I do think it's a win for the Republicans, but what choice did they
have at this late moment?

7. Let a shutdown happen
Democrats aren't the ones causing the shutdown. This entire shutdown is based on the republicans desire to use this as an opportunity to get whatever the fuck they want. They are acting like spoiled children because they know we will just give in and we should have called their bluff at the beginning of this entire debate.

8. They'd spin it to be used against us -- they always do and people believe them
no matter how egregious the lie is. And I don't feel comfortable putting people in dire straits to make a point.

On one hand I agree, but the "casualties" are what win out, in my mind. And, the Dems may have been the casualty -- who knows?

I don't know about them but here's what Keith Ellison tweeted

Rep. Keith Ellison
House could have done this deal days ago, and avoid the drama. Rs needed to push social agenda.

Hse voted to keep govt open for 5 days. Contains deep cuts ($2B) but not anti-women & anti-clean air riders. I voted no. Jobs, not cuts.

Reich's comment

The Prez and Ds caved in, endangering the recovery and strengthening the right-wing bullies. A tactical win for Prez and strategic loss.

6. Thanks for that - I figured it was probably something along those lines, but
you can't make THIS House do anything they don't want to! It's so aggravating!! These Republicans are terrorists, I swear. People are dissing the Dems for not passing a budget when they "had all the votes" but I've heard McConnell said he'd filibuster -- they wouldn't even let it come up for a vote! In retrospect maybe Reid should have said "go ahead, filibuster your hearts out" but he didn't. But that's indicative of the concrete wall we're constantly slamming in to. I feel so bad for the Dems and for Obama. I wouldn't be able to pass by my "fellow" Reps or Senators without spitting in their faces. :(

I heard someone on the radio say this is good for the Republicans, and very bad for the economy.

What are we to do? :banghead:
