Teabagger rage? It's all theater. |
|
The Teabag poutrage over Boehner "caving" is a well orchestrated show that leaves the public with the false impression that the "compromise" is "fair" (or even leans to the liberal side) because it leaves the 'baggers unhappy. This sets the stage for the next act, which will involve further slashes into the flesh of the common people to support the bloodsucking rich.

1. I don't think it's that at all.... |
|
...I think it's more about the fact that the extremes on any side of an argument HATE compromise of any sort, and view any such compromise as a failure.
Now might we see increased COVERAGE of this outrage, in order to give a false appearance that this deal was an even compromise? I think it's likely. But the 'poutrage' itself is genuine, IMHO.

The True Believers are frothing genuine froth. But cynical leaders are writing the script for them, telling them exactly what to be mad at.

38. I think your problem is who you might be considering extreme on the left |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-09-11 09:50 PM by FormerDittoHead
On healthcare, for example, I personally don't think it's "extreme" to have the OPTION of having a system that has been proven to work in many, many other countries.
There are people on the left who think that all wealth should be collected and then distributed to people based upon their need. I'm guessing those aren't the people on the left you're talking about. (even though the word "socialist" is constantly used by the right)
Feel free to label those people as "extreme". They're not even part of the conversation.
No, the problem here is that politically, the *reasonable* people on the left are grouped along with those on the right who believe that gov't shouldn't exist except for the military and to tax the poor to pay for it. I could go on and on about their fantasy world ideology, but the point is that the "extreme left" only wants what we've seen work in history and elsewhere and have it for everyone. That makes us "extreme".
I would also like to point out that in just about every case, these non-compromising lefties will vote for Obama in 2012.

All the little 'bots are genuinely ranting and raging at their assigned targets. The ranting and raging are real. The targets are assigned by malignant forces who know what they're doing.

who are under-educated, willfully uninformed. yes.
that's how we get a timothy mcveigh, etc.
but there's no 'anger', 'passion', etc -- in the hearts and minds of the heritage foundation, limbaugh, dick armey, etc. and not even much at the tea bagger rallies -- though it is a good opportunity for them to goad the democratic party with weird outrageous signage, and bigoted horse shit slogans.

19. Exactly - that is how they get what they want |
|
by being implacable and sticking to it. They get what they want by never getting what they want. In this they are reproducing and amplifying the basic Repuke tactic pursued since the Reagan Revolution: demand more, and when you get it and it doesn't prove to be the instant fix you promised it would be, DEMAND STILL MORE and blame the continued vestigial memory of your ideological opposition for the failure of your policies. Demand more, demand more, always demand more. Your bottom line demand is that your opponent should go crawl into a hole and die. Demand concessions that your opposition cannot survive, and then act like its a treasonous plot to destroy America that the opposition asks you to compromise a leetle tiny bit with them.
As Mussolini famously said in reply to a newspaper's demand to know what the Fascist Party planned for Italy, "The democrats of Il Mondo want to know our program? It is to break the bones of the democrats of Il Mondo."

23. There's ONE thing people need to know. |
|
REPUKES/TEABAGGERS have abortions too. Their children have abortions, their girlfriends have abortions, their mothers have abortions, their aunts have abortions and their wives have abortions.
ABORTION IS GOING NOWHERE FOR A LONG, LONG TIME. They ALWAYS use it as a tool for bargaining, knowing full well it will never be overturned.
The question IS....is this giving cover for the Democrats?
"Oh, we saved Planned Parenthood by giving more tax breaks to the rich in exchange." OR whatever they're trying to do for their corporate masters at this particular time.
"Oh, we just had to stop the Teabaggers from underfunding Planned Parenthood so we had to cut all those social programs that help the poor." OR whatever they're trying to do for their corporate masters at this particular time.
I always have an orchestration of this bargaining crap in the back of my mind. The Repukes AND Democrats sitting at a table, orchestrating their plan of attack on us. "Should we use Planned Parenthood and abortion to frighten them this time? Or should we use SS, Medicare, immigration, social programs for the poor, guns, gays or religion?"
"What will our peon puppets fall for this time?"
Am I a tad cynical? Fucking better believe I am and for good reason. Politicians (this excludes Bernie Sanders) are NOT in Washington DC to do OUR bidding. That's just a fact. They work for Corporations. We, THE PEOPLE lost our control years ago.
I can't wait to see what they've done to us THIS time. :(

24. And calling it all Teabagger stuff instead of Koch and Oil Baggers stuff |
|
also bothers me.
Planned Parenthood and carbon emissions control.
And following the plan that led to the Bush Crash-- cutting more taxes on the rich so they can do more wild speculating.
It bothers me that the narrative is all about Tea Party ideals when they are really Koch Brothers ideals.
And yes you are right, I've seen it before-- the apparent anger from the extreme right about the "caving" of the hard right.
And once again, somehow, it is supposed to make corrupt Democrats feel better too, about their much more devastating caving on the core values of the Democratic Party.

For whatever reason, your OP reminded me of the very first family I worked with, when I started in human services. I remember the wife/mother telling me all about the tragic events in another woman's life. I finally asked if this was a relative? Friend? Neighbor?
It was a character on "The Young and Restless."
This might sound unlikely to some, but I am confident that with your background, you know what I experienced.
Events in DC and around the national stage render far too many people in a non-real world, where they view actors and scenes as being as real as that poor woman did "Ashley."
