4. I was just going to post about them too |
|
Firstborn was laying down in a kind of "I can't believe I ate the whole thing" position, and Secondborn, who is constantly being pecked on by Firstborn, came over and tried to nuzzle up to him. Then, Firstborn just righted himself and started pecking Secondborn in the face again. Poor lil Secondborn. I wish we could see close-ups in focus to see how much damage is being done to those tiny faces by those viscious beak attacks.
Earlier when I was watching, the three were left alone in the nest for a little while. Firstborn wiggled his gigantic behind so that it was almost facing the camera and his head was faced down into the nest. Then suddenly this white stream of liquid explodes out of his behind and squirts at least a foot away. I wish I had been recording that "stream" when it happened.
It was funny. How does a week-old bird know to not shit in the nest? Although, to be fair, it did get all over the food, so maybe he's not so smart.

10. When they get a little older, mom won't allow pooping in the nest. You'll see them lower their |
|
heads and aim their fannies very carefully to "squirt" outside the nest. You can hear it. I watched a batch (2 eaglets) a couple of years ago for TWO AND A HALF MONTHS before they finally took their maiden flights.

|
This one just aimed outside of the nest bowl, but right onto the food, lol.
BTW, what are they eating right now? Is that a new animal?

of the nest to poop but not for a few more weeks.

#1 has already has his/her fill. Seems almost like mom waited for #1 to be asleep to feed the other two so they wouldn't get pecked at.
