When it's raining, we can't fix the roof... |
|
...and when the sun is shining, it doesn't need it.
That seems to be the attitude of many folks. We can't let the Bush taxcuts expire, the unemployed won't get their unemployment benefits. Those mean old Republicans have threatened to block it.
We can't let them shut down the government. We have to give away the store or those mean old Republicans will do away with Planned Parenthood.
It's as if to say, we don't have an argument for any of these programs. The Repubs are so much better at defining the argument than us. We will lose the political battle if we don't surrender to their demands.
And on and on it goes...

They keep telling me I'm lucky to have such a nice view of a starry night free of charge. Soon they'll tell me I have to accept a forced diet to create jobs or sell my blood to prevent severe cutbacks in corporate bonuses.

5. The neo-liberal wing of the democratic party doesn't disagree |
|
With repukes on some key notions: take welfare to work or the 2 year Extension of the bush tax cuts - neo-liberals in both parties are intent on Withdrawing government support for the middle, working, & underclass citizens.
Doing that shifts capital to those already wealthy.
It's the game and the only game in play right now.

7. Arguments Don't Change Republican Congresscritters' Votes |
|
The Teabaggers want to shut down everything. They are very open about that. A government consisting only of military and police would be fine with them, and that is what a shutdown would do.
Anything less than a shutdown is a victory over the Teabaggers. It takes the votes of all Democrats and all of the less-insane Republicans to do it.
Obama and the Democrats in Congress are trying to save what they can.
