China tells US: Stop preaching on human rights
China has told the US to stop preaching on human rights, after the state department's annual report on the issue criticised China.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said the US should concentrate on its own rights issues and stop interfering.

Chinese authorities have launched a major crackdown on dissent recently.

Unveiling the report, US officials expressed particular concern over the recent arrest of the artist Ai Weiwei, an outspoken critic of the government.

1. The price of torture
We used to be able to address human rights issues in China without appearing like hypocrites.

4. Everyone's telling us that. Last year the State Dept.

had to admit that it's own record on human rights in certain areas where it was accusing others of abuse, were just as bad and maybe even worse. The State Dept was basically told to get last then also.

I think they should drop this 'Annual Human Rights Report' now. We no longer have the moral authority to be in charge of pointing fingers anywhere. And it's embarrassing to be told that each year.

The Wikileaks cables' revelations about this administration's disdain for the highly respected judges of European Human Rights Court, and its intereference to protect Bush torturers from prosecution in Spain, just about finished this country as a moral country in any sense of the word. At least under Bush people were willing to just blame him, but now we know, it's not.

The U.S. will be ignored on human rights issues until they start prosecuting their own torturers and shut down the horrific detention centers, end the death penalty and reform its own horrific prison system.
