Cantor admits Social Security and Medicare ‘aren’t going to be there’ when he retires

It may just be wishful thinking.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) admitted Sunday that he didn't expect Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare to be around when he retires.

"What we (House Republicans) have said is this: We'll protect today's seniors and those nearing retirement, but for the rest of us, all of us, who are 54 and younger, I know the programs are not going to be there for me when I retire," Cantor told Fox News' Chris Wallace.

(snip)
A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that 76 percent of Americans consider it unacceptable to cut Medicare, while 67 oppose cutting Medicaid, despite their deficit concerns.

1. A meme that RWers have been pushing for generations. They've
never been able to make it stick with the general public, but think that if they REALLY REALLY TRY, they can pull it off this time.

4. they have a president willing to compromise on just about everything.
It's so god damned admirable isn't it??

Let's just all come together and do what's best for this country. That's what I keep hearing from the leader of our party.

I guess letting people live in shacks and die in the streets with no medical attention is prolly the best way to go for all Americans.

I think I'm beginning to believe! hallelujah!

6. It's an absolute lobbed softball in the direction of the Democrats.
How they choose to go after it will tell me everything I need to know.

2. If he doesn't want it

then he doesn't have to take it when he retires. We're not broke nor are we beyond the capacity for fixing whatever problems might be in the system. However, of course, it will take making it a priority to do so, as well as allowing EVERYTHING to be on the table in terms of fixing it.

It CAN be done without eliminating/privatizing it. All it requires is a desire to do it, which the Republicans, of course, don't have!

3. If this isn't fodder for an attack ad against Cantor and the pugs, such a thing must not exist.

8. stop griping about Obama and tell your family what the repukes are up to would you?
Once people understand what those assholes want to do, you won't need to worry about Obama - he'll 'cave' (if you want to put it that way) to the roar from the electorate - 'NO FUCKING WAY!'

12. I don't need to tell my family what the repukes are up to. They already know.
And they are beginning to see that Obama comes together with them, just a little too often.

7. Fuck Cantor.
I've been paying into the system for years, now you assholes are going to take it away, because you wanted to give tax breaks to the wealthy?

Just. Fuck. Off.

And I have a feeling that's what the electorate will be telling him too. We need to make sure all 54-and-under's know all about what these jerkwads are up to. Spread the word in your family, whatever their party. If they are under 55 but approaching it they will be ROYALLY screwed if this goes through.

11. and he's bound and determined to make this a self-fulfilling prophesy-
along with many other well-off self centered people.

No reason to raise taxes on the wealthy- they're busy hoarding.
