Florida lawmakers take up religion in funding, courts

Church and state are intermingling in Tallahassee, as lawmakers consider bills critics say could both help and harm religion in Florida.

And it seems only God knows whether any of them will become law.

On one front, lawmakers are considering asking voters to change the state Constitution to give religious groups and institutions to the right receive government money.

At the same time, legislative committees are mulling bills that bar state courts from using religious or foreign laws, a measure critics say could infringe on some religious practices.
