Just got a call from the Obama campaign
The nice, young man in DC was asking for a donation of at least $100. Here's what I told him: I've already donated $10 because I want Obama to succeed. But I've been unemployed for over two years. Because of policies like extending the bush tax cuts, I simply do not have the means to donate more. I volunteer at the food bank three days a week to help feed the ever-growing numbers of unemployed in my neighborhood. I'm getting ready to open a clothing bank at another location with some friends to give away clothes to people who can't even afford to shop at Goodwill. The young man said he understood and asked if I'd be willing to volunteer for the campaign. I said I would not. I lived through the LBJ years and watched him stand up and make a lot of noise and get civil rights laws passed. I do not see this president doing that. If Obama feels the need to compromise to get things done because he's up against an unprecedented machinery, so be it. But I want him to make a lot of noise about what's wrong with the picture and why. So I told the young man that when I see things turn around for me and my neighbors, when I feel that I can believe in the oratory again, they'll hear from me and I'll sign myself up to volunteer. For now, I'm doing what I can to feed the hungry and clothe the cold.

We ended up having a good discussion before wishing each other a good day.

1. A hundred dollars?????????
In this economy they have the nerve to call people and ask for $100??? Good for you that you told them no.

:wow:

5. Successful fundraisers don't ask low.
You always ask a little higher than your guess of a likely donation.

16. I know, I volunteered for Hillary's campaign, but we didn't ask for a $100.
We started with a little more humble amount.

24. I think they usually base it on their donation history
I see that with other charities. Charities that I've given $100 will tell me it would be really helpful if I could give $150 (in a way that it looks like they're asking everyone for that amount). Charities I've give $25 to will send me fundraising letters that tell me how much they need $35.

I think it's SOP with fundraising.

My best friend is very liberal, and donated a lot of time and money to the last Obama campaign. He told me yesterday that he is done with Obama -- he is not getting one red cent from him, or a minute of his time. He is fed up.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do regarding Obama.

Fool me twice...won't get fooled again.

8. Strange bedfellows, eh?
I can read that kind of verbiage on any number of teabagger sites, I imagine.
Politics makes for Strange Bedfellows, indeed.

4. Yep
So it will be the haves that finance the campaign?

Let us pray they have mercy on our souls.
.....................

PS: Obama is damned if he does and damned if he don't.
And.... no one gets to stay president if'n he don't keep the haves having more.

13. The Haves financed his first Prez campaign
The bulk of his funds came from wealthy donors. Only about 26% of his campaign funds came from small donors. -- REALITY CHECK: Obama Received About the Same Percentage from Small Donors in 2008 as Bush in 2004

18. Of course they did
Most of the ground work, however, was done by the have less.
Now they have even less. And so pols must go to where the money is.

Let us pray the pukes don't run a sensible candidate.

19. So, the little people people did not finance his campaign?
Another myth busted. Well, not really. I think that we all knew it, the campaign preferred not to bring that up. It was more appealing to mention the thousands of small donations they received from the "little people".

7. This is why he has to depend on his corporate donations to reach his BILLION $$$$ goal.
The peons out here can't afford to feed the ineptness anymore. If he was actually doing something to help the people in this country, they might be more inclined to throw him a few bucks. He won't be getting any of our money. He doesn't deserve it. When he decides to stop "compromising" with Repuke THUGS, then we can talk.

Who are the saps who are going to donate enough money for the campaign to raise the indecent amount of 1 billion dollars???

I am Still a Democrat, I'm just being selective about Who gets my $$$.
I called the DNC this AM to explain that unless and until they allow their supporter's a say in Who gets the money, I will act on my own determination of qualified candidates.

I explained that one problem are the "blue dogs", that I have no interest in supporting them and in fact will not, along with the other "followers" of popular opinion over the will of the dems/best interest of our country.
I am Finished being "dragged right". I don't consider myself a "raging liberal", but I am Not going further in this "mud ladened tug of war".

Any of them, anywhere...Like Weiner/Sanders, Who demonstrate in action and votes that they are "Real Old School Dems"....There is only a small handful of politicians I do support.
I seek and support Candidates from the Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party.

28. Exactly!
When I state "Dems, I'm Out"...It means I'm out of the "political shell-game". I love Being a Democrat, but now I'm taking control of who represents me. The "fund-raising arm of the party" has lost it's way and I'm Pissed about that! Look what We ended up with in DC and the "teapublicons" think They have something to complain about, lol

31. Bait and switch
the GOP does it too. They go out and poll and ask people what their front man should say. Then he says it. Then they get in office and do what the PTB pay them to do.
