The Civil Rights Movement?
Last nite I posted a thread saying that maybe if this re-energized movement on the left (workers, Unions) had a label - a frame - maybe, just maybe it would force the msm to take notice.

I am generally against labels but think this is one time when it might come in helpful. It just might make more people notice. And might be a counter to the teabaggers.

I know that the Civil Rights movement refers to the 60's.... but why can't we use it again? Everything the progressives want and fight for is civil rights. We want equality for everyone regardless of race, age, disabilities, economical status. We are for the people - all the people.

Just think how nice it would be if the pundits said that Boner is being pushed by the teabaggers while the President is being pushed by the Civil Rights movement? Maybe, and hopefully, our voices could be heard for a change.

Thoughts???

2. civil rights is not enough. We need economic rights as in
worker's rights, labor movement, tax reform.

3. Why couldn't that be incorporated in the term Civil Rights? Fair pay should be a right
and who fights for that more than Unions?

4. How about Bill Of Rights movement -
focusing on FDR's expanded Bill of Rights -

In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:

* The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;
* The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
* The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
* The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
* The right of every family to a decent home;
* The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
* The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
* And finally, the right to a good education.
