Water is always a good choice to rehydrate after working out, but researchers suggest beer is better
Posted: 12:11 PM

ANSAS CITY, Mo. - Forget water or Gatorade. The drink of choice to rehydrate after a workout is beer.

Researchers at Granada University in Spain found beer can help retain liquid better than water alone.

The results were published in the British newspaper The Telegraph. The study involved a group of students. They were asked to work out until their body temperature reached 104 degrees.

Researchers then gave beer to half of the students and water to the other half.

They said the bubbles in the beer help quench thirst while the carbohydrates help make up for burned calories.

1. I piss like a race horse after just one beer.
No way could I survive if I drank beer after a workout.

2. But the workout was to burn off those calories in the first place.
But, still, no use arguing with science: another Shiner, please! ;-)

And do remember: In heaven, there is no beer. That's why we drink it here.

5. Hmm...this requires individualized research, closer to home
I volunteer.

Forget recovering faster physically--a beer or two or 12 sure would help me recover from a workout psychologically.

10. it's not the booze in it, i guess;
http://www.healthhabits.ca/2011/02/22/beer-gatorade/

Erdinger, a Bavarian brewmeister, is touting its no-alcohol beer as the latest sport drink for athletes, handing it out at the finish line of sporting events and touting its regenerative benefits.

Unlike Gatorade, Erdinger Alkoholfrei is served up with a frothy head. And it comes in one color – a golden hue – unlike conventional sport drinks.

Several top athletes from Europe quaffed the beverage from giant mugs on the podium of the World Cup biathlons held this month in northern Maine.

12. I always heard it was the potassium in beer that helps after physical exertion
From and old legend told about comedian Red Skelton. Mr. Skelton, normally a tea-totaler, requested in his performance rider that there be two Heinneken beers waiting for him after each show as a means to quickly re-hydrate his system.

20. I must paraphrase Ben Franklin on beer:
"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy".

This is the most important story of the day. It damned well better be on the Greatest posts page.
