TEPCO: Radiation leak may exceed amount in Chernobyl accident
Edited on Mon Apr-11-11 10:25 PM by thewiseguy
So all night long I was listening to a press conference by NISA, the Japanese Atomic Safety agency, where they were comparing the Fukushima disaster to Chernobyl and how what happened in 1986 was so much worse, and then just minutes ago I saw the following headline crossing the wires:

"TEPCO: Radiation leak may exceed amount in Chernobyl accident"

http://english.kyodonews.jp/

TEPCO is Japan's power company and they are the ones running the Fukushima plants and managing this disaster.

Edano who is Japan's chief secretary just apologized to Japan and the international community, saying this is a very big accident.

Edano nor the Japanese government have explained why they kept reassuring the Japanese and the international community earlier that there was no massive radiation leak.

Update: Released radioactivity is coming from the number 2 reactor blast on March 15th.

2. Hell, it's only 10% of Chernobyl. They still have a long way to go.
:sarcasm:

(Can you even believe that 10% of Chernobly number they came up with?) And that's what we, the public are dealing with. Pure untrustworthiness and with very good reason.

3. Well get this: It's 10%, it's estimated, and it might exceed Chernobyl- all at the same time.
He said the amount of radiation leaking from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant was around 10 percent of the Chernobyl accident.

Tokyo Electric Power Co., the operator of the plant, is still estimating the total amount of radioactive material that might be released by the accident, said company spokesman Junichi Matsumoto.

He acknowledged the amount of radioactivity released might even exceed the amount emitted by Chernobyl.

4. Remember - it's only a "leak"
So it can't be very bad. Right?
