Fine arts on the chopping block for Clark County, Nevada schools
For some Clark County students, it’s the best thing about school: music, theater and acting. However, the fine arts are on the chopping block as the governor’s budget proposal calls for millions of dollars in cuts.

Educators are asking parents to write their lawmakers in Carson City in protest of the cuts.

Under the current budget plan the district stands to eliminate 50 fine arts positions in middle schools and high schools. That would put several programs in jeopardy.

“This is what’s keeping them in school,” said school district administrator and former music teacher Rick McEnaney. “Either athletics or fine arts or their elective courses are what’s keeping their butts in the seats.”
