New York state budget slashes education, health care and taxes on the rich
Summary of the new budget:

Education:

The state budget for education is cut by $1.3 billion... 18,000 to 20,000 teachers vulnerable to layoff... CUNY senior & community colleges lose $103.8 million... SUNY loses $100 million bringingtotal cuts to SUNY over the past two-and-a-half years to nearly $700 million -- about one-third of its operating budget.

Health:

State spending on health care reduced by $2.8 billion, plus loss of about $2 billion in Medicaid matching funds from the federal government...

State Workers:

In addition to layoffs resulting from above cuts, Cuomo demands additional savings of $450 million from union contracts & says he'll lay off state workers if he doesn't get them...

Rich people/business:

Tax incentives, “regulatory relief,” and financial giveaways for business... The so-called "millionaires tax," a 2009 surcharge on incomes over $200K enacted during the financial crisis, will sunset at the end of 2011. Cuomo refused to renew it & it is not in the new budget.

This is the great stuff the "new democrats" are giving us.

1. Screw the poor and middle class! Screw the kids!
It's the rich that need help!

2. Doesn't NY have the highest taxes of all the states?
Even after this I think they may still be number one.

3. I think NY is the highest taxed.
Between state incomes taxes, sales taxes and property taxes.... they then have rigged everything else with a surcharge or fee--we are unduly taxed for what we receive. The cities/boroughs downstate also have resident and worker income taxes.

Plus we are a donor state on the Federal end.
