AP: Diebold to build new world headquarters in Ohio

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- ATM maker Diebold Inc. has announced plans to build a new world headquarters on its home turf in northeast Ohio.

The company now based in North Canton said today that it's looking to consolidate its existing offices in the Akron/Canton area at a new $100 million campus that will be established somewhere in the region. Diebold says it's looking at a handful of possible sites for the facility, where 1,500 employees will work.

The company says it decided to remain in northeast Ohio after discussions that included officials in other states. So Diebold would stay in Ohio, the state offered about $56 million in incentives including tax credits and loans.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich planned to visit Diebold in North Canton and speak to employees this afternoon.
