1. Hope so, because otherwise
he may as well announce his withdrawal from the 2012 race.

15. +1
All the nice speeches in the world don't matter unless he does the obvious thing for the country's good.

2. Got this in email:
They may not be many, but there are members of the wealthy class who have been vocal about paying more taxes. United for a Fair Economy, Responsible Wealth, and this group.

I am writing to ask for your help with something very important. It will take you about 58 seconds and it will make a BIG difference.

Today President Barack Obama is calling on congress to strengthen the financial foundation of our country by raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans – and some of those ‘wealthiest Americans’ want to help him win this important fight!

Today close to 100 Patriotic Millionaires asked the President, Sen. Reid, and Cong. John Boehner to raise their taxes. You can see their letter here: Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength.

These Patriotic Millionaires include: top Hollywood Director Doug Liman (Bourne Identity, Mr and Mrs Smith and Fair Game), the founder of Esprit, the founder of Ask.com, several top Google engineers, famed economist Nouriel Roubini, financial guru Andrew Tobias and top executives from Blackrock and Warburg, Pincus.

They are happy to pay more taxes; AND they are actively pushing for a fairer tax code. As one of them told me: “This small monetary sacrifice is both an ethical and patriotic decision, made in the hopes of allowing the United States of America to continue to be a leader economically, politically, and morally."

Please let the President know that you support the Patriotic Millionaires and agree that people who make more than $1 million a year should pay higher taxes.

Sign the FRIENDS OF PATRIOTIC MILLIONAIRES petition here or call the White House directly at 202-456-1414.

18. My g-uncle/godfather, used to claim he would have no problem
paying taxes on a million. The petition you link to is people of the same decent caliber as my Uncle Larry. Wish I could sign! :hi:

20. A noble effort. We'll eat them last.
Really, though, I appreciate what they're trying to do. Trouble is, paying taxes isn't the determinant here -- paying big bucks to some worthless piece of crap's (re-)election fund is.

11. A Drumbeat Is Building...
...not sure if it's tom toms or a bongo drum right now but there is a growing number of people who are realizing the problem with the Federal budget isn't expenses, it's revenues. That's also the problem in the states. Cutting more services mean more jobs means more revenue. And in many states there's not a lot of budget left to cut...short of privitizing everything (the rushpublican wet dream).

IF (and I won't put any money on this one) this administration is smart they can corner the rushpublicans with their own "no tax" mantra. If there are to be cuts on one side then there needs to be taxes risen on the other. If the GOTB wants cuts then EVERYTHING is on the table...including Defense and Corporate Welfare. They wanna cut $1 trillion out of SSI then they need to agree on a trillion dollar cut in Defense contractors and another trillion in tax increases. They wanna reduce the debt...this doubles down on their game. And no way they'll ever go for it. Then hammer them on how they want to "take away grandma's medicare" and protect the rich. It's time to shine a light on the trillions in corporate welfare that is a large part of government spending that does little for the masses and much for the privilidged. Sadly I don't expect any of that to happen...
