The breaks I'm needing from cable news are getting more frequent
and are longer than they have ever been before.

An obvious sign of frustration and the feeling of powerlessness and marginalization.

1. I know the feeling. I just get sick at all the bad,
absolutely crazy shit going on every day.

2. Yep, I know exactly what you mean! I used to keep it on in the background, but
anymore it's mostly off.

3. My TV does not go on until 7PM and then I watch Criminal
Minds and Without a Trace repeats.

A vast wasteland is putting it mildly.

Thank God for the internet.

4. That means you're just about ready to pull the plug.
You won't regret it.

5. I turned broadcast news off for the last time 7 years ago
because I was sick of being lied to by omission and worse.

The only surprise was that I didn't miss it. It had only been a dumb habit for a long time, flip on the national news at 6 PM. The Simpsons was in repeats at that time and gave me just as much useful information about the state of this country.

When I finally got a dish 4 years ago, I just never got into the news habit again. I'd see warnings here of an Olbermann special comment and tune in for his last 10 minutes to catch it, but that was it. I've also seen Maddow on You Tube. In fact, You Tube is one of the ways to sort out the grain from the chaff when it comes to video news. Only the important stuff gets posted.

Just turn it off. Your blood pressure will likely go down and you'll be free to discover the other stuff that's out there.

7. I can't watch it anymore. Not just news, but ALL cable TV.
Pure drivel.
