You could reword the last sentece to say "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" and it wouldn't change it all all. Also I quoted this from the NIV, which is considered a fairly conservative translation of the Greek texts. Though,to be honest if your directly translating it, than should it really be liberal or conservative?

It was a euphemism for going against the old, stodgy ways. Don't read the Bible literally, or people will think you're an unthinking Republican.

On the other hand, I spent the weekend with two sisters and, while watching a news story about a particularly horrible incident of patricide, I turned and looked at them and asked "now why didn't we ever think of that?" Much laughter all around.
