WTF? TurboTax says I can have my refund sent to my bank account, or to a WALMART money card!?!? |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 01:16 AM by garybeck
I just finished my tax return and I have a small refund coming, and TurboTax is giving me the choice of:
1) have the refund sent to my bank account 2) check in the mail 3) funds added to existing Walmart moneycard
WTF? How did Walmart get in on this?
:wtf:

2. Did you use the "free" TurboTax that is appearing on TV and internet ads |
|
Have been thinking of using TurboT for federal filing, but can't figure out why TurboT would be offering it for free.
Is there a catch?
Thanks.

4. i believe they HAVE to offer it free depending on income. we did the free one. |
|
and i guess there is a trick because the state should have been free too and last year we ended up paying to file the state one but this year we didn't. something about the address you use. not sure. but there is a free one and a paid one..... as i said, i believe they have to offer a free version. the federal government wants to encourage efiling.

5. Have you noticed that the tax booths Walmart has in the front of their stores |
|
push this too?
Just select one of the other two options and turn your taxes in. Consider it a "no" vote.

but then I purchased the premium version. I run a very small business on the side, so this version works better.
Some people don't have bank accounts. Some of them are probably also WalMart shoppers.

The fact is a lot of people don't have bank accounts, so they cant use direct deposit. If they got a check, they could get it cashed (likely at Walmart) for a small fee, or they can get a money card.
I don't remember seeing that option, but I did my taxes in January. As far as I'm concerned, more options is always a good thing. Those who don't want to use it can skip it, and if somebody thinks that is the best deal, they can take advantage of it.
