We need to hold GE accountable for Fukushima

They designed 5 of the 7 reactors in the Fukushima plant in a way that their own scientists warned them was too reckless causing them to resign in protest. TEPCO doesn't have the money to pay for all the damage that GE's product is causing and will go bankrupt absent a bailout. Also, we can't in good conscience just let GE get away with this. GE has killed before due to their reckless disregard for life. The movie Erin Brokovich was about GE killing people with unsafe chemicals because they'd skimped on the safety precautions. If they're not held accountable what will stop them from recklessly killing again?

What's more GE is a worthless tax cheat. They made 10 billion in income last year and they paid 0 taxes. They actually received a tax credit of about a billion dollars.

We need to organize a political campaign to hold these b******s accountable for their actions.

Thirty-five years ago, Dale G. Bridenbaugh and two of his colleagues at General Electric resigned from their jobs after becoming increasingly convinced that the nuclear reactor design they were reviewing -- the Mark 1 -- was so flawed it could lead to a devastating accident.

Questions persisted for decades about the ability of the Mark 1 to handle the immense pressures that would result if the reactor lost cooling power, and today that design is being put to the ultimate test in Japan. Five of the six reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi plant, which has been wracked since Friday's earthquake with explosions and radiation leaks, are Mark 1s.

"The problems we identified in 1975 were that, in doing the design of the containment, they did not take into account the dynamic loads that could be experienced with a loss of coolant," Bridenbaugh told ABC News in an interview. "The impact loads the containment would receive by this very rapid release of energy could tear the containment apart and create an uncontrolled release."

The most egregious example is General Electric ( GE - news - people ). Last year the conglomerate generated $10.3 billion in pretax income, but ended up owing nothing to Uncle Sam. In fact, it recorded a tax benefit of $1.1 billion.

1. Could this be a stretch??? How old or how long had those

reactors been in use? Decades??? Technicians have
admitted not reporting things wrong at the reactor.
