Ace Lincecum donates $25,000 to Bryan Stow Fund

By JANIE McCAULEY, AP Baseball Writer

Thursday, April 14, 2011

(04-14) 13:54 PDT San Francisco (AP) --

Giants ace Tim Lincecum is giving $25,000 to assist the longtime San Francisco fan who was attacked outside Dodger Stadium last month.

The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner's donation will go to the Bryan Stow Fund to help with the 42-year-old paramedic's medical bills and other expenses. The father of two was beaten in a parking lot outside Dodger Stadium after the teams' March 31 season opener and remains hospitalized in Los Angeles in a medically induced coma. No arrests have been made despite a $150,000 reward.

"This was a senseless act of violence and I wanted to help out Mr. Stow and his family," Lincecum said in a statement Thursday. "It's also close to me because not only is Mr. Stow a Giants fan, but I have family and friends who are firefighters, police officers and paramedics and this honors their service to the community.

"I encourage Giants fans to support Mr. Stow in a positive way and hope there are not any more unfortunate acts between fans in this great rivalry," Lincecum said.

1. The Giants/Dodger game I watched last weekend...
Was awesome... a player from each team spoke about healthy team rivalry and keeping that rivalry on the field and showing respect to fellow fans. It was really great to see.

5. Totally senseless...
These weren't Dodger fans... they were idiot thugs with probable gang afiliation. I've seen all sorts of fights break out at sporting events... Angel Stadium and Dodger Stadium included, but never like this. Although I understand a fan was stabbed at last year's Angel opener. I'm not sure how that went largely unnoticed.

That said... I've never been afraid to be at Dodger stadium, and the last game I attended, which was after the attack and before the new security deal, found the stadium and the parking lot buzzing with cops. I was happy to see it!

It's a game... and there's no beating the crap out of people in baseball!!

8. Lots of insults are thrown at Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium, where
people proudly wear their team's gear, but nothing like this.

You are right, these assailants aren't fans they were bums looking for trouble. An awful thing.

Enjoy the games-----it's a great sport (except when you're in the cellar as The Sox are).

2. God Bless Brian Stow
Oh I hope he recovers. He is a guy who saved lives.

I am a big Giants fan, but because my Mom LOVED the Dodgers, I root for them as well. (when they are not playing the Giants)
