28 DC women on Medicaid were hung out to dry by congress this week- here's how to help:

The DC Abortion fund is scrambling to help 28 women on Medicaid who have been told by the Federal Government that DC is not allowed to fund their legal medical procedure.

If you have a few dollars to spare to directly help some people that were screwed over in this "compromise," this is a worthy cause. DCAF is a non-profit that works at 2% overhead, and are really working to help these women.

As a former clinic escort in DC, I can tell you that the majority of women going into clinics in DC on Saturday mornings are young and black, and most of those shouting "counsel" at them are middle aged white men.

I have cheered when Eleanor Holmes Norton got a call that hundreds of out of towners were blocking a clinic in Southeast, and she came down with full media coverage to stand arm in arm with us until the police were embarrassed enough to come down and break it up. She was right when she said DC should tell Congress to "go straight to hell" for using DC low income women's lives like a bargaining chip.

I was there when a police officer walked up to a hassler and said, "Why are you doing this? These women want to have a life. If they are told that they have to have the baby, in 13, 14 years, I'm chasing that child up and down the street. Leave them be."
