Looks like the neocons/gops have been giving us a Sophie's Choice on global trade. 1) be against |
|
trade and be on the left 2) be for global trade and low taxes & little regulation. Time to take it back. Yes we believe in world trade (that will turn 2 billion poor people around the world middle class in the years to come) and we will regulate and tax you fairly the same all around the world. I mean is there a clearer example of how low taxes don't spread the wealth around automatically at all than the USA: the world's biggest international corporations in the last 30 years with a middle class that has a shrinking amount of wealth in the last 30 years? I mean bad regulations and low taxes may create more wealth but this has just led to power-lust and anti democratic social issues being astroturfed around the world .... middle class people would do so much more with it if it came their way. The utility of wealth in a few hands, if it results in less safety regulations and fewer social programs and more archaic social issues (which it has), is less than nil. It is negative. And the poor of the world that are left will suffer the most in this social climate (and with climate change). The rich have simply proved they are not qualified to be making up the rules. They never are. So don't let them. Don't fall for their black and white Sophie's Choice. Go with nuance. Together we can find a way for all people to do well in this environment of increasing world wealth.

2. The sad truth is that "global trade" was levied upon us by Dems, and continues to be.. |
