World's oldest man dies in Montana
Edited on Fri Apr-15-11 01:30 AM by The Northerner
(Reuters) - A 114-year-old retired railroad worker reputed to be the world's oldest living man died of natural causes on Thursday in the farming community of Great Falls, Montana.

Walter Breuning, who had lived in a local nursing home since 1980, was declared oldest man on July 18, 2009, by the Guinness Book of World Records.

"I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend and a great Montanan, Walter Breuning," Governor Brian Schweitzer said in a statement. "He was wise even beyond his years."

Breuning was born on September 21, 1896, in Melrose, Minnesota, and spent most of his early life in South Dakota before taking a job with the Great Northern Railway in 1913, according to the Rainbow Senior Living retirement home in Great Falls.

1. Wow!
I grew up in Great Falls, Montana, and my grandfather worked for the Great Northern Railway. I did not know that the oldest man in the world lived in Great Falls, though.

R.I.P. Mr. Breuning.

2. That headline has some problems
I see it as, "Ex-oldguy dead. New old guy ambivalent. Says, 'GMA f*k off forever.'"

3. May he rest in peace.
Just moves me up one person in line closer to the grave.

Seriously, I don't want to go that long. The tarnish starts showing pretty thick on the golden years after 90.
I forget who said: "Die young as late as possible".

4. So I'm guessing that if he retired
After 45 years working, he would only have paid into SS for about 15 years and collected for another 52 years...WOW! That defies the odds...
