World’s oldest man dies in Montana at 114
GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Walter Breuning, the world’s oldest man and second-oldest person, died Thursday. He was 114.

Breuning died of natural causes in a Great Falls hospital, said Stacia Kirby, spokeswoman of the Rainbow Senior Living retirement home where he lived. Breuning had been hospitalized since the beginning of the month with an undisclosed illness.

Breuning was 26 days younger than Besse Cooper of Georgia, whom the Gerontology Research Group in Los Angeles lists as the world’s oldest person at 114.

In an interview with The Associated Press last fall, Breuning attributed his longevity to eating just two meals a day, working as long as he could and always embracing change — especially death.

1. I understand the working as long as he could part...
It's true..

You don't use it, you lose it.

Father in law has had multiple strokes, all kinds of health issues and is on SSDI. He will barely do any of his physical therapy and basically sits on the couch all day, and eats cheese.

Then he wonders why he is so weak all the time :eyes: Bloated belly and no muscle mass in the legs.
63 years old and looks in 80's

3. Man...seems like every time that...
they declare a new "World's Oldest Man," the guy goes and dies within a few years.
Must be a curse.

(yes, that was an attempt at humor)

5. That reminds of a comment I remember reading about...
someone who was having a birthday over 100. She was asked "what do you expect of the future?". She replied "I expect it to be short"

8. It's more like a few months

"World's Oldest Person" is not a title that anyone holds for years.

What's interesting is the record for how long a a single person has held the title.

But, in general, the "World's Oldest" man or woman dies every couple of months.

4. hmm....
"Breuning was born on Sept. 21, 1896. ... He lied about his age and got a job in Minnesota with the Great Northern Railway in 1916 at age 16."

Wouldn't he be 20 in 1916?

6. That's wild to think about, this man; was a living time capsule, seven years old
when the Wright Brothers; had their first flight at Kitty Hawk and here we are in the day of space travel and the Internet.

Thanks for the thread, Maine-ah.
