It's official: House GOP passes plan to end Medicare, cut taxes on millionaires

by Jed Lewison

So they've done it. In lockstep, House Republicans have walked over the edge of the cliff and put themselves on record supporting the repeal of Medicare while extending trillions of dollars in tax breaks to millionaires.

By a vote of 235-193, with all but 4 Republicans voting in favor and unified opposition from Democrats, the House approved Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's 2012 budget plan. As you know, the Ryan plan would end Medicare as we know it, replacing it with subsidies for private insurance and it would simultaneously spend trillions of dollars to reduce tax rates on the wealthiest Americans. And now it is the official position of the GOP.

Update: Here's a link to the roll call.

Another update: GOP no votes are Rehberg, McKinley, Jones, and Paul.

And more: Harry Reid says the plan is DOA in the Senate. DCCC ays it will cost GOP the House in 2012.

Yet another: Charlie Cook compared the GOP's Medicare-repeal plan to a political death wish.

1. WTF are they thinking?
Honestly, I have to wonder if 90% of them aren't being blackmailed or something. All but 4 voted for this?

4. Boy, that's some batshit insane bulloney, even for the GOP.
It's bullshit theater. The Grand Oily Partisans are stubbornly on a hell-bent state and national rampage to fist anyone making less than $300,000 a year and they're not even hiding their shamelessness.

The American people are just not that into you dicks anymore.

5. Political ads begin writing themselves
Or they should. Can Democrats turn their attention from taking deadly aim at their own feet long enough to notice what an election campaign gift they've been handed by the opposition?

10. I certainly hope so. Aaron Sorkin wouldn't have scripted anyone doing something
this blatantly dumb. The Dems will be fools if they don't take advantage of this opportunity.

You should make them... I bet you'd sell a ton of them... I'd buy one.

You know you can do that at Cafe Press, design your own bumper sticker and sell them. You should try it...

14. Why would they do it? Watch for this meme from the MSM
"Ryan put a bold plan out there, Obama has his plan, now what is needed is a compromise, in fact a plan is already out there from the Deficit commission!

The pukes did exactly what they were told to do by the corporate masters, it is up to all of us to put a stop to any compromise.

15. Genocidal insanity
The Rethugs try make good on the pro-embryo, anti-elderly/disabled/poor pogrom of indirectly killing off as many "unproductive" and uninsured US citizens as inhumanely possible.

Hitler would be so proud of these brown-shirted Rethugs.

If I am going to become an unwilling and helplessly suffering victim and ultimately a corpse due to their sociopathic and unbridled greed, I'm going to do my level best to try to take some of 'em down with me.

 :grr:

18. the GOP just committed political suicide.
Their opponents in the 2012 elections should run ads 24/7 reminding voters of this. Democrats will win in a landslide.
