Today the House passed the Ryan budget, an abomination that would quickly kill the poor, middle class, and elderly in this country. The Democrats in the Senate will vote it down, but that's not the point. The 'Pugs have already won with this budget.
The Ryan budget wasn't designed to actually become law, Ryan and the 'Pugs knew this the minute they introduced the bill. But it wasn't a bill that was designed to pass into law, but rather it was designed to move the goal posts, once again.
This bill moves the goal posts by voucherizing Medicare, cutting taxes (again) and by implementing draconian cuts.
And it is already successful. In the president's speech earlier this week, he stated his willingness to "reform" Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. He is open to "compromise" with the 'Pugs on spending cuts and other related policies. And while he is against extending tax cuts for the rich, as we've already seen, his actions belie his words.
Thus, the 'Pugs have already won. They have moved the goalposts so far to the right that in order to "compromise" with the 'Pugs, Obama and the Dems are themselves going to have to move even further to the right.
There comes a time when the insanity is so blatant, the desires of one group of people so outrageous that you have to draw a line, not in the sand, but chiseled into solid stone. Sadly, the Democrats apparently don't wish to chisel this line. Instead, as they've done time and again, they want to "compromise", they want to appear to be "bipartisan". Down that path lies destruction as sure as if we followed Ryan's proposal. The only difference is that Ryan's plan promises instantaneous destruction, while the Dem's niggling, compromising plan is destruction by increments.
The Dems have a perfect opportunity here to chisel that line in stone. No compromise, no bipartisanship, no working together with the 'Pugs. The 'Pugs are batshit crazy, and the Dems, for the good of the country, should not follow then one inch down that path. Take this opportunity to educate the people, to present the facts, and then to propose a budget that is sane, reasonable, and does no harm to the people of this country.
If not, then damn it, give me the Ryan plan. If I'm going to be killed, do it quickly, not a death of inches, not a death by compromise.
