If only all the Royal Weddings could be like this...

2. Adorable! Not that it affects me in the least, but it's mind boggling to realize that Kate is going

to be the first commoner in line for the Queen ever? Now I heard today that there is talk about changing the rules for succession. That if Kate and William's first born is a daughter, she would be the heir to the throne?

15. Yep, I saw that...
It was interesting to read the article since it compared the UK royalty to other European royalty rules/laws. The article talked about if that is gonna happen, they need to make it happen ASAP otherwise they risk what some other royals have had happen: "sorry, kid, you and your older sis are swapping places in the succession line" and there is suddenly a face/name/live kid who gets publically dropped a notch.

20. The difficulty is the British monarch is head of state of 21(?) other countries as well
and they'd rather keep the same one in all of them, rather than ending up with a sister in some, and a brother in others. So they want to coordinate a change of law in all the countries, before there's a chance of a daughter being born first.

Of course, they could have done this as soon as William was born, when they had decades to do it in. Or when Charles was born.

The other problem is that some people think that the "no marrying a Catholic" rule has to be fixed at the same time; which brings sectarian feelings into it too...

If I were some of the other countries, I'd take the chance to say "we'll become a republic after Liz dies". I'd say that for the UK too, but I know there's no chance of that happening at the moment.

3. Sweet!
I know, I know it's a lot of silly folderol, waste of money, etc. etc. ad nauseum! But I learned to read, with princess stories, so I will be consuming every last drop of royal drama and historic pageantry and beauty and happiness next week! I'm glad the royals are getting some "common" sense and intelligence in their blood line. So I will not be listening to your sour pouting about the whole affair!!!

4. I wish you lived closer.
After all, someone has to eat breakfast casserole and gossip about the proceedings with me!

My mom woke me up to watch Princess Anne's wedding. I stayed up all night watching Lady Diana's wedding. I'll be up all night watching Prince William's wedding, and I'm hoping he and his love will have a long and happy marriage.

And, yeah, I'll be knee-deep in the drama, pageantry and celebrations, too.

Wedding cake, anyone?

:woohoo:

22. Exactly! I read urban fantasy novels (vampires, werewolves, etc.)

Who am I to sneer at other people's guilty pleasures?

(I also read a lot of science fiction, but that is considered "respectable" these days, even among my college English department colleagues.)

7. Very clever! Wish the real deal could be just like that.
I wish the happy couple well, regardless. William didn't choose to be born a future king, but he appears to be adequate to the task, and most importantly, he appears to love his future wife.

8. Somehow, I think royalty will come to an end or be transformed
after this union

I get a good feeling about William

I agree that the newsworthiness is questionable, especially in the US

9. When is the "Royal" wedding?
Edited on Sat Apr-16-11 04:12 PM by senseandsensibility
This from a former anglophile with a subsription to two royal "fan" magazines back in the eighties. I own several hardcover books about Diana, and many about the English royal family. But since Di's death, I barely know that a wedding is planned, let alone when it is. I'm glad that my priorites have changed so much, but I would like to know when this wedding is. So if you know, please reply. I'll probably watch the wedding in honor of Diana. She was okay.

11. Friday, April 29th
There was an online article that had the timeline for the day. Think they said actual wedding is at 11 am their local time.
Which means guess I will be getting up at 5 am to watch it given my time zone, or earlier if I want to watch the pre-wedding stuff/guest arrival.

Sounds like a DVR moment in case I hit the snooze button a few too many times.

Everybody trying to be 'different' is looking/acting just like everybody else. How many THOUSANDS of videos are on youtube of the wedding party/bride/groom dancing/handstanding, etc. down the aisle, first dance (thriller, dirty dancing, flashdance, etc.) , etc., ad nauseum.

Hope TMobile paid them for the idea...at least made a contribution to the anti-violence fund.

24. Commemorative Royal Wedding Ring
Issued to celebrate the wedding of Prince William to Catherine, this limited edition ring is cast in a deep royal blue silicone and features a delightful raised motif reminiscent of crowns of regency past. Rejoice in a very special union of your own.

Yes, what says 'royal wedding' more than a ring? Well, a ring made from silicone ... NSFW. They should have called it the 'Prince Albert'.
