Obama address was surprise attack, Ryan and other Republicans say
I hadn't heard some of this....quite an interesting take on things....certainly worth a read :0)

http://host.madison.com/ct/news/article_f148c8de-678e-11e0-a63d-001cc4c002e0.html

"They expected a peace offering, a gesture of goodwill aimed at smoothing a path toward compromise. But soon after taking their seats at George Washington University on Wednesday, they found themselves under fire for plotting “a fundamentally different America” from the one most Americans know and love."

snip

"At two Chicago fundraisers for his reelection campaign Thursday night, Obama defended his GWU speech. “That wasn’t a critique,” he said of his repeated attacks on Ryan’s ideas. “That was a description.”

21. Yeah...he stays so calm it is hard sometimes to realize he is opening some whoop-ass
I think, sometimes, that it is Obama's style that frustrates me. He is quiet and takes a lot of blows...but then sneaks in a winner...and goes back to taking the blows. His winners are winners and when he's taking the beating...well...he just doesn't seem to notice.

I guess we were all hoping for a KO in the first round...

28. Rachel Maddow suggested:
Reaading the speech instead of watching it. To read it, she said, you would think he was breathing fire. If you were watching and didn't speak English, I guess you would have no idea he was ripping them a new one either.

2. "They expected a peace offering..."
I think Obama has extended plenty of 'peace offerings' to these assholes -- I haven't seen much reciprocation. Compromise should be both sides offering something; not the Dems caving in to all the Rethugs demands.

Like Scott down in Florida...cutting 15% to the disabled...then forcing cuts to other programs to get it back.

As a occasional critic of Obama, I HOPE he doesn't back down off of this stance. If he loses because of Congressional numbers, I'll be OK with it IF HE'LL JUST CONSISTANTLY FIGHT FOR WHAT'S RIGHT!. Like this.

...it harkens back to Harry Truman, who said, "I don't give 'em hell, I just tell them the truth and they think it's hell."

I'm liking the way this is going so far. These guys are such a bunch of WHINERS. Americans don't like WHINERS. They don't like CRY BABIES. At least so I've been told... usually by rabid right wing thugs.

16. Still, Republicans said, did Obama have to attack the men to their faces?
“Reagan had the decency to insult his enemies when he was out of town,” grumbled one GOP aide.

Are they too spineless to be confronted by the President face to face?

32. And this whining comes courtesy of the people who attack Obama and the Dems every day.
I'm struggling to find a sufficiently non-sexist term for Ryan and his runaway posse as they scurry for cover and cower from the glare of the spotlight of truth.

Paul Ryan has been characterized as brave and courageous.

The President has his patriotism and even his birth questioned.

What a whiny, snotty-nosed response from a guy who ten years ago said that the federal deficit was too small.

"The situation was all the more perplexing because Obama has to work with these guys".

Here's the thing, guys: he was letting you know that YOU have to work with HIM. HE is the President of the United States, arguably the most powerful man in the world, and he doesn't take his marching orders from YOU, especially when YOU are a bunch of goose-stepping fruitcakes.
