Ideas for Government cost savings - lets hear them
Edited on Sat Apr-16-11 05:05 PM by ThomWV
Here is my idea for Government savings. Do not allow the military to purchase more bullets than there are people in the world or to maintain a nuclear arsenal capable of destroying the entire planet more than once; and require that our entire military budget, including the cost of any current war(s) not exceed that spent on defense by every other country on earth combined.

1. Off the top of my head, here's a few -
Close all US military bases in the EU.

Drop "nation building" as a military activity, everywhere.

Establish a Medicare "buy-in" for those under the age eligibility.

Raise Soc. Sec. FICA withholding limits.

Allow the income tax cuts on top incomes to expire.

5. Cut corporate loopholes, end tax breaks for wealthy and call in the
taxes owed by tax dodgers as well as those with offshore accounts hiding their wealth. Regulate hedge funders, speculators and Wall Street. Investigate the Feds to stop this fraud by the wealthy.

It is time to stop the flow of wealth from the middle class to the wealthy.

6. I have a few
*Repeal the December Tax Cut Extension ASAP $700Bn

*Restore Eisenhower Era Tax Rates for a period of 10 years. At the end of the 10 year tax plan, tax rates will roll into the “Clinton Era” tax rates. Yes, I am serious

*Immediately Close Corporate Tax loop-holes and save

*Cut Selective Service: It is no longer used and needed. $23Mn

*House and Senate Pay Cut by 25%, reduce perks and reimbursements and Increase their HC Contributions by 8%. About $3Mn="Shared Scacrifice"!

*Cut Military Contracts Spending. Close Gitmo.

*Cut Cannabis Eradication Programs $14.7 to $40 Bn Annually –Americans are getting Zero ROI!

*End Big Oil and Ethanol Subsidies

*End All Agriculture Subsidies. Why on earth do we pay people to not grow stuff?

*Deal with (REGULATE) Wall Street and Stop allowing groups like the Koch bros, Ins CEO’s and other greedy entities (lobbyists) write bills that are becoming law and ruining our economy.

*Draw Down and pull out in the Middle East.

For starter's.

7. The federal government can stop borrowing.
It doesn't need to borrow in order to spend. If people are so freaked out about paying interest on the debt, there's an easy solution.
