I think there is mounting evidence that the 2012 republican nominee will be a joke. Palin, Bachmann, Trump all would be jokes and I think the leadership might allow it in order to put an end to the power of the ignorant rabble once and for all. They know they'll lose this cycle so why not gain some political ground by discrediting the tea party once and for all?
Dangerous for sure but it may be the game that they are playing.
