Well. Watched "The Kennedys" today. Well. Sharing a memory, from 1968. |
|
The Smothers Brothers, probably the most underrated show of all time. But this is the first airing ever of a song that I hope you remember. We have work to do to keep up their legacy, my DU friends: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ki_osW5RsA&feature=related

1. I indeed remember that song. |
|
I was watching the Smothers Brothers show the night Dion sang it. I recall one of the brothers saying that as soon as they heard it, they wanted it sung on their show. Still brings tears to my eyes, even after all these years. I also watched Bobby Kennedy's speech at the Ambassador after the CA election victory, and him saying "And now it's on to Chicago". Standing behind him was Rosie Greer, and the thought struck me, nobody's gonna mess with Bobby, not with Rosie next to him. Within minutes, Bobby was dead. I also clearly recall the moment I heard that John had been assassinated, and Martin, too. God, what awful memories, and yes, we must work to keep up their legacy. There's too much at stake if we don't--like, the future of our nation.
Thank you for posting. I should mention that I liked "The Kennedys" and I'm glad I watched it.
Peace

2. Thank you for that. I remember where I was for all of the assassinations, too. |

Like yesterday. But your remembrance was so very heartfelt, and I thank you for it.

3. I remember even in the 90s ... |
|
When I attended one of my kid's school concerts in elementary school, and the children sang this song, with guest gospel soloists leading. It brought down the house. I bet children still sing this in music class ... if there are any music classes left in public schools.

4. Thanks. This aired immediately after RFK's assassination. I remember it vividly. |
|
This was like less than days later; it may have been only a couple of days at best.
I remember it well. The Smothers Brothers are totally underrated today, and they should win every award (Kennedy Center, are you listening?) that is out there.

5. Bobby with Abraham, Martin and John. |
|
Did we see our national ideals go over the hill with them.
