Why are so many against the new Ga, Immigration law?
As far as I can tell, it will require all agriculture employers to validate the immigration status of every employee. I've been told there is NO CAP on the # of a/g visas so what's the problem? The only argument I've heard that, although wrong, makes sense to me is the employers saying they'd have to pay thm more $$. Isn't the abuse of illegal workers one of the reasons we've all been fighting FOR new laws?

One of the guests on Hardball was caliming the Ga. law was a copy of the one in AZ, and I don't think it is.

There are several links with info, but this is one that I just read.

1. I don't know about the Georgia law,
but employers are already supposed to be verifying employees' legal right to work. That's why I have to bring my Social Security card and Passport with me every time I start a new job.

2. This new law mandates that the employer call that # to verify citizenship.
I forget what they call it but it has a novel name for the contact. Apparently the A/G employers have been fluffing it off and still claim if they don't hire illegals, their produce will cost more or rot on the vine. I realize they're just bitching because they;d have to pay minimum wages and don't want to do that. I'm living on SS and don't have a lot of $$, but I'd be willing to pay a few cents more for my produce to force these AH's to pay more and stop abusing their workers.
