WTF? Assange is back in jail!
http://www.thehindu.com/news/international/article952436.ece

"In an unexpected twist that his lawyer described as having elements of a "show trial", WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was on Tuesday sent back to jail despite being granted bail by a court here earlier in the day after the Swedish authorities, seeking his extradition to Sweden to face charges of sexual offences, decided to appeal.

The appeal, to be lodged at the High Court, could take up to 48 hours to be heard.

Mr. Assange’s lawyer Mark Stephens accused Swedish prosecutors of "sparing no expense to keep in jail" saying the case was turning into a "show trial".

"This is really turning into a show trial…but given the history of persecution of Mr. Assange it is perhaps not surprising," he said."

3. This is bullshit.
He was OK to go, until he wasn't. This is really just ridiculous, and it is so transparent what is really going on here now.

I don't want to go far out on a limb for a guy who I don't know, never will, and I wasn't there when all this alleged shit happened, but this does stink.

13. This is the warning shot. This whole thing is corrupt. It smells. Not a time to be polite
and heady about this. Seriously this shows there is trouble.
I think nothing short of rescue will work. Seriously.

22. They need him in jail for a bit longer
So they can get another chance to have a "prisoner" shank his ass.

It's not just a show trail and it has nothing to do with Assange. A clear message is being sent to the rest of wikileaks - we can fuck with you at will. And if a prisoner kills Assange then that message will be clear as well.

But I think that TPTB has underestimated the people; some of us ain't gonna take it any more. Se of us are prepared to die for justice.

7. Sweden filed an appeal of his bail ..... after he was released
Edited on Tue Dec-14-10 04:47 PM by DJ13
And to make it even better, prior to his bail hearing it seems Sweden had already announced they wouldnt oppose him being granted bail.

It sounds like Sweden is a puppet for another government here.

Any guesses which government that might be?

15. Even more to the point this is just bail
There is still the issue of extradition AND a rape trial.

The only thing bail would do would allow Assange to not sleep in jail until his trial but ultimately the charges must be answered unless folks want Assange to become a fugitive for the rest of his life.

Some folks may not approve of date-rape laws but many others worked very hard to get them on the books.

23. You're wrong. he can't fight extradition to Sweden, as per another article here on Du, BUT
Britain can fight Sweden extraditing him to the United States which is what this is all about. The state department here hasn't finished creating a case against him. Sweden is willing to ship him here to the US if they can. but within the European Union he can be extradited. there is an Op about extradition up today on DU.

19. But they still haven't charged him. Because they can't.
One of his lawyers told Democracy Now this week, that he has always been available to talk to the Swedish police but all offers to do so were ignored. He was in Sweden for over a month after the allegations were made, they had plenty of time to talk to him then.

The U.S. is as always, behind this scam.

No one should be in jail unless charges have been filed. The judge has asked repeatedly for evidence from the Swedes, but it has not been forthcoming.

There is no way he should ever be extradicted to either Sweden or the U.S. The U.S. tortures people and that should preclude them from any cooperation in getting someone like Assange extradicted.

20. I think this is good in some ways
This entire manhunt/prosecution of Julian Assange is 100% corrupt and I believe Interpol, Sweden, Great Britain, and America are shooting themselves in the foot. The longer this drags out for, the more stuff like this that happens, the less anyone is going to believe it is legitimate.
