Judge Roy "Ten Commandments monument" Moore forms explor - com for Prez run.

Please PLEASE run, Roy. Please! One more nutcase for the right wing side, not to mention fodder for all the stand-ups. This guy is so far out there he makes the rest of the field so far look positively normal. He even makes Trump look reasonable.

Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore today announced that he is forming a presidential committee ahead of a potential 2012 presidential run.

In a statement explaining his decision, the conservative Christian said, "Basic institutions of family, faith, and freedom are under assault, and our leadership is divided by petty party politics and a special interest agenda."

Moore, a Republican, lost his job as Alabama Supreme Court chief justice in 2003 after erecting and refusing to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments outside the state's courthouse.

Yup, this is a guy that thinks this country was founded on the Christian religion and that his special brand of that faith is the only one to believe in.

He hasn't got a happy hope in hell of getting the nomination, much less making it through more than a round or two of the primaries, but it will be fun to watch. Not even the Republican party is nutty enough to nominate him. I doubt the Tea Partiers are either.

Sorry if this has been discussed already today. I searched back a few pages and didn't see any threads on it.

4. Exactly.
He's REAL popular with the nutcase element in Alabama, but even most fundamentalist Christians think he is too much of a whack job. I think it is hilarious that an Attorney....and a JUDGE no less refuses to admit that of his favorite ten "laws", only 3 of them are actually against the law. It is also funny that he has insisted from the first day he became well known that the laws of this country are based on biblical law. I'm no lawyer - far from it - but I do know enough to say that is a huge load of bollocks.

I hope he runs and I hope he makes it to a debate. It will be amusing to see the rest of the field deal with him.

3. Let's hope he makes a 3rd party run
I doubt he could get the repub nomination (who knows)- but splitting out a third party would be a nice touch.

5. There is no way he would get the national nod from the Republican party.

6. Oooo, a campaign platform
built on moving a bunch of statues that Cecil B. DeMille distributed around the country to advertise his movie.

Yup, that there's deeply principled. Not.

7. This moran couldn't even get the votes to become Governor.
It has become very obvious that the way to make a quick few million dollars is to form a presidential exploratory committee.

8. LOL...yup. Well, I noticed you are from Alabama....
Welcome to DU, BTW.

So, as an Alabaman, wouldn't you say that he has a serious and devoted following in your state? I mean, he is a darling of a certain sect, right?

I followed the whole fiasco with the placement of the monument. He had a HUGE backer in D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Ministries of South Florida (He's dead now and currently roasting marshmallows over the lake of fire!) who filmed the whole middle of the night installation and sold the video on his website. I found it completely hilarious that he ignored his own colleagues when they told him he was out of line and lost his job on the Alabama Supreme Court as a result.
