Elijah Cummings: I'm ready for Darrell Issa

By JAKE SHERMAN

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) has a message for House Republicans ready to launch a slew of new investigations next year: Bring it on.

With Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) chairing the powerful Government Oversight and Reform Committee, Cummings is poised to be a frequent presence on television and a foil to an aggressive Republican majority which has vowed staunch oversight of the executive branch.

“I live in the neighborhood where The Wire was filmed,” Cummings says, trying to project some of his Baltimore toughness as he takes over the top Democratic slot on the Oversight panel.

This should be one of the truly enjoyable political spectacles of 2011

Harry

Cummings has already set the wheels in motion, saying he’s building a “staff of superstars.” He is sifting through resumes from applicants from the Senate, the House and the private sector to work on the top investigatory committee. He said he has discovered that there are lots of Democrats who recognize that his committee is “where the action’s going to be.”

1. My friends and I, with his child strapped in the car seat in the back,
thought we could cross Baltimore one way but we ended up in an area where it looked like Homicide was filmed, we even recognized some of the boarded up store fronts...

We looked at each other and thanked the lord above that it was day time...

2. These "hearings" are going to backfire ... painfully
Well, painfully for the GOP.

And, as is their usual custom, they won't have enough sense to stop the spectacles.

5. Yep. Issa will end up being seen as a whiny, nagging schoolmarm
who tries to whack Democrats on the knuckles with a ruler for giggling at him.

You think public opinion of the GOP is bad now? Wait until Issa's little crusade gets into full swing.

4. Issa...Useful Tool...
This mope loves to get used. He did all the dirty work that led to Ahnuld becoming governor even those Issa wanted the job for himself. Spent millions and came up snake eyes.

This dude is gonna try to be the new Disco Danny Burton...a diversion away from the serious issues and creating distractions that the corporate media will flock to. This is a game for GOTB'ers only...Faux noise will be his cheerleaders and he'll get invited to all the conventions and rubber chicken dinners...the money will roll.

It's all ego and mind games here...played to a corporate media that will run with the "scandals" crap like they did during the Clinton years.
