Donald Trump: Reagan Was A Con Man Who Couldn’t ‘Deliver The Goods’
Donald Trump: Reagan Was A Con Man Who Couldn’t ‘Deliver The Goods’
Today, real estate mogul Donald Trump proudly declares that Ronald Reagan is the President he admires most. Here’s Trump on the April 14 edition of Hannity:

HANNITY: Who are our past presidents that you admire most?

TRUMP: Well, I really like and knew a little bit Ronald Reagan, and I really liked him. You know, not only his policies, smart guy and so much smarter, you know, I always sort of have to laugh to myself when people try and criticize that level of intelligence. And I loved his style. I loved what he represented. … I thought he represented something very special for this county.

................
But in his bestselling book, Art of the Deal, published at the conclusion of the Reagan presidency, Trump cited Reagan as an example of someone who could “con people” but couldn’t “deliver the goods.” Trump said Reagan was “so smooth” that he “won over the American people.” But at the conclusion of his presidency, “people are beginning to question whether there is anything beneath that smile,” Trump writes. Here is page 60 from Art of the Deal:

Now he's done it. Dissin' Saint Ronnie isn't going to go over too well with the Randian teabaggers. Has anyone pointed this out to the Romney camp? I think they ought to know.

16. Hard to say from that excerpt
But I'm not sure if Trump is condemning or lauding Reagan. Certainly Mr. Trump's own career has been chock full of con jobs that blew up when he couldn't deliver. Now he'd like to be president to try his hand at some really big scores.

I saw him this morning on the Toady Show (again). Savannah Guthrie actually asked him a substantive question about his personal finances. Trump did his usual "My fortune is huge! Gargantuan!" schtick, but when Guthrie followed up (I know! Unheard of!), Trump had to admit that he wasn't going to release his financial report until he announced as a candidate. And even then, he knew chapter and verse how long he had to wait before filing that report (30 days). And that the FEC routinely granted extensions up to 60 days to file. So, if Trump ever files formal papers as a candidate, that will begin the 90 day countdown to the end of his vanity run.

And look for NBC to fluff him every step of the way.

5. That's Not Going To Win Him The Republican Nomination (Not That He Even WANTS It)
You can't win over Republicans by even SUGGESTING that MAYBE their God, Ronald Reagan, the only begotten son of Jesus and Superman, produced excrement that DIDN'T smell of a country rose garden on a spring day. Everyone knows that Ronald Reagan's tears could cure cancer. Why, I once saw him urinate on a dead dog and it came back to life.

The fact of the matter is that not only does Donald Trump not WANT the Republican nomination (this is nothing more than a big publicity stunt for a guy who has a TV show and a book about to come out--how else do you explain the, "I'll make my announcement on the season finale of 'The Celebrity Apprentice'" nonsense?), he'll never be able to pass all the requirements just to get there. He'll drop out roughly 2.3 seconds after they ask him to disclose his finances. Besides, Obama would wipe the floor with HIM too. I would LOVE to see the guy run on the "I can run the government because I've run multi-billion-dollar businesses" platform. Yeah, you ran them........into the ground. This "brilliant businessman" has declared bankruptcy something like 5 times.

17. A Major "EWWWWWW!" Factor
Trump actually said he'd consider dating his daughter!

And while Trump’s personal life is not outrageous by today’s standards — he has been married three times and said in 2006, when he was 59, that his daughter, then 24, “does have a very nice figure. I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her”

20. It's the new, and questionably improved Rudy Giuliani. "I'll say anything to get YOUR vote."
What an idiot. And so is anyone who thinks this guy is a serious candidate.

21. I'm beginning to think Mr Trump
may be trying to restore democracy (along with his income and brand). He is dividing the RWers and calling attention to the insanity they opened the door to. His actual beliefs seem to be with the DLC centrists but more of a dove -from past positions.

I don't know if I'm reading into his motives too much but it's having that effect.

What's not to get? In short, Reagan is DT's hero and role model.
