3. Not assholes, rapists.
Unless they're equally smashed, in which case they may be alcoholics.

19. If some commits an act that would be rape while sober, I don't think being drunk is an excuse
By analogy, if someone willfully gets drunk and kills someone with a car, we hold them responsible, right?

5. Other. Define drunk.
There are many levels of the effects of alcohol. Drunk is sort of an undefined thing. So, if you can post a better definition, I can answer the question.

6. In the real world, drunk people proposition each other all the time
Drinking fosters it. Who really gives a shit what people do when they are drunk?

9. Depends on the sobriety of the propositioner.
Sober people who prey on drunks for sex are certainly assholes.

Drunk people who proposition other drunks are merely acting like drunks.

13. Propositioning and Coercing are sort of different things.
Edited on Tue Apr-19-11 03:48 PM by MineralMan
That's another thing that makes this poll impossible to answer. Among a certain set, there wouldn't even be much sex without alcohol being involved. That's why there's a bar scene. Beer glasses aren't gender-specific. At a level far below being drunk, alcohol decreases inhibitions and lets shy persons do what needs to be done. At that level, propositioning can come from either sex. If someone's falling-down drunk or seriously impaired, then sex shouldn't even be considered. That falls into the rape category.

Your poll is too poorly defined to be answered.

Every situation is different and this poll seems to be very much a sweeping generalization.

17. Other: There are a few miles between proposition and coerce.
That said, those that "hunt" the drunk like prey are assholes but people partying and asking are totally inbounds.

21. They're often drunk themselves, so...
If the person being propositioned can blame their acquiescence on strong drink, I don't see why the same shouldn't apply to the one doing the propositioning. Now, if it's some totally unbalanced thing like, one person is fall-down drunk while the other hasn't touched the stuff, that's different. But I don't think that's the way it tends to play out.
