9 out of 10 climate change denialist "experts" linked to ExxonMobil
Edited on Tue Apr-19-11 07:34 PM by salvorhardin
Sort of a "Scientists announce the sky is blue" type of moment, but it's always nice to have the degree of deceit quantified.

'900+ Peer-Reviewed Papers Supporting Skepticism Of "Man-Made" Global Warming (AGW) Alarm' announces the headline on the Global Warming Policy Foundation's website.

The article references a blog linking to more than 900 papers which, according to the GWPF, refute "concern relating to a negative environmental or socio-economic effect of AGW, usually exaggerated as catastrophic."

However, a preliminary data analysis by the Carbon Brief has revealed that nine of the ten most prolific authors cited have links to organisations funded by ExxonMobil, and the tenth has co-authored several papers with Exxon-funded contributors.

The top ten contributors are alone responsible for 186 of the papers cited by the Global Warming Policy Foundation. The data also shows that there are many other familiar climate sceptic names among the major contributors to the list.

1. And probably 10 out of 10 were bottom of their classes in college.
Either that, or their major was ceramics instead of science. Shit, we all can write papers. Doesn't mean we know jack.

2. Well, peer review should filter out that kind of thing
Of course, when it comes to the right wing, as we learned with the Creationists/Intelligent Designers, "peer reviewed journals" can mean something entirely different to them than it does to the average work-a-day scientist.

3. But they don't listen to their peers. The peers are just liberal
nut jobs as far as they are concerned. Always an excuse. You know, the liberals all have an agenda. Conservatives, never.

It's 99.5% BS.

8. ExxonMobil/oil industry didn't spend tens of billions because Global Warming wasn't true ... !!!
What will happen when the public awakens to the reality of the oil industry's lies?

Don't think we're too far from that time since the weather catastrophes continue to

worsen.

Royal Academy of Science also called out ExxonMobil for this disinformation, misinformation,

lies and tens of billions in propaganda just a few years ago -- and demanded that ExxonMobil

stop. A number of the oil firms had dropped away by then -- but Exxon is still at it!!

The sad reality is that Global Warming -- which is about HEAT -- the HEATING up of the

atmosphere which creates chaotic weather -- will bring us more instances and more severe

isntances of every kind of weather -- from droughts/floods to hurricanes, cyclones, tornadoes

-- and Global Warming also will bring us more earthquakes and more severe earthquakes --

and earthquakes also trigger volcanic activity!

On top of that -- there is no way to say how all of this will compound -- we've changed

ocean systems -- we've changed wind patterns --

Also note that there was a 50 year delay in our beginning to feel the effects of Global

Warming -- i.e., we are only now feeling the effects of our human activity up to about 1960--!!

Yet, we've not only known about Global Warming since at least 1957 --

Scientists also came to see the negative effects on nature by 1880's due to the

industrial revolution.

11. So we still haven't discussed the lone nutter
Sure, 9 out of 10 are linked to ExxonMobil, but we have to account for that tenth one.

He's a loner, a rebel. Supported by no one—yet still he strives to spread the message that everything is all right, that we can return to our restful slumber and ignore the fevered cries of the scientific community.

Who is the lone nutter?
