Poll: Nearly half of Iowa Republicans are birthers
By Eric W. Dolan

Nearly half of Republican voters in Iowa said they don't think President Barack Obama was born in the United States, but despite the large "birther" presence in the state, many had negative views of real estate mogul Donald Trump.

Forty-eight percent of Iowa Republicans said they don’t believe that Obama was born in the United States, according to a survey by the left-leaning Public Policy Polling. Another 26 percent said they weren’t sure.

Trump, a potential Republican presidential candidate, has been courting the media's attention by questioning Obama's eligibility to be president. He first revealed he had some doubts that Obama was a U.S. citizen during an interview with ABC News' Ashleigh Banfield in March.

Later appearing on Fox News, he claimed that the president has not provided his birth certificate and suggested that Obama has "spent millions" trying to avoid the question.

What the hell is wrong with these voters? I thought midwesterners were supposed to be "down to earth, hard to fool" people?

2. fortunately the repub winner in Iowa seldom goes anywhere
or we'd have distinguished presidents like Huckabee. I believe Pat Robertson even won here once.
The Iowa myth of being a kingmaker especially for repugs is way overblown.

3. Candidate trump ...
President Trump?

Doubt it ...

He'd have to file his tax returns ...

Remember Howard Stern running for Gov.? A number of people said he'd drop out when he'd have to disclose his income (surprised Mrs. ZBDent with this) ... when it came close to the deadline to release his documents ... he dropped out ...

Trump probably would, too ...

4. Some years back there was a campaign to finally get some more diverse states
involved in the early primaries...I don't know why that effort died off, though

5. With apologies to Iowa DUers, conservatives from Iowa are particularly off the wall.
Two of my closest friends, actually like parents to me, are retired right-wing wackos from Iowa who I am sure are not only tea party sympathizers but birthers as well. We get along by never discussing politics. The irony is that their youngest son went to the University of Minnesota and in spite of the fact that he lived at home for 18 years that institution made him, gasp, A LIBERAL!.

8. Last night useless Iowans were photographed holding their "I'm In" signs.
Organizing for America has asked supporters to send pictures of themselves holding "I'm In" signs to support President Obama. We should make new signs just for you. I was in Georgia for a week this summer after watching a useless Iowan graduate from USMC boot camp. My family enjoyed Savannah and it was a pleasure not meeting you.

7. Perhaps they are just mad because they have no idea
who their real parents are and have no birth certificate of their own

9. Bullshit polls and they are getting old
It's a joke and most people are in on it. Seriously, if you'd have run a poll among democrats during Shrub's time in office asking if he was an actual chimp, a significant percentage of polled people would have said yes. Not because they believed it, but because it was fun, expressed their anger, or just to mess with republicans.
Except for a very few seriously deluded people, the majority of republicans know full well that Obama is an American. The only real thing the poll answers is that a large percentage of republicans are willing to lie to pollsters.
